Over the last week students have all received their progress reports. MANY students are missing work. Please check with your students daily to make sure they are doing and turning in their work.
Last week we've been covering information on the location, climate, and natural resources of Germany, United Kingdom, Italy, and Russia. This week we've been learning about the diversity of the languages in Europe; focusing on English, German, Italian, Russian, French, and Spanish.
***If your child is absent it's THEIR responsibility to come to me to get the notes and work they missed! ***
Social Studies tutorial is held on Monday's from 3:00-4:00 - Student need to tell me prior to Monday if they are planning to attend!

Sorry it's been a super busy week for me. This week we've finished up the environmental concerns in Europe and have moved on to the location, climate, and natural resources of Europe. We've begun by taking notes using a four fold paper in our interactive notebooks. I've told students I will be doing a notebook check next week. They will need to make sure that they have all their foldables complete and in their interactive notebook by 9/7 for A day classes and 9/8 for B day classes.
I'm noticing a lot of students are starting to "forget" or lose their two required notebooks for my class. The students need the daily notebook for a quiz next week, basically I give them a sheet of paper with dates on it and they will need to tell me the question from that day and the correct answer.
Please speak with your children about the correct behavior in the classroom and at school so that we can prevent future disruptions to not only my class but all classes.
25 August
Today students took the SRI so they missed B1 and half of B2, but tomorrow is a B day so we will catch up no problem. In my B day classes we are beginning to learn about the environmental issues of Europe. We will also review the map of Europe for their geography quiz next week. I will upload work to my site tomorrow and it will be listed under homework.
23 August
A day classes we started discussing the major environmental concerns of Europe including Acid Rain in Germany, Air Pollution in the United Kingdom, and the nuclear disaster at Chernobyl, Ukraine. In class we only got through Germany we will continue on Wednesday. B day classes we are a day behind because of MAP testing so today we discussed the geography of Europe, and students labeled a map. B day classes will have their continents and oceans quiz on Thursday...please have students study them.
The students will be taking the SRI on Thursday in homeroom please make sure your child in ontime. Also students should have 2 composition books or notebooks for my class....I will be starting to check notebooks next week and it will affect their grade them not having one or not bringing it to class daily.
18 August
Today was a crazy day....We had MAP testing this morning which took about 2 -2 1/2 hours so I actually didn't see any of my social studies classes today, just my enrichment class.
17 August
Let me start out by apologizing and promising I will update this more than once a week...Starting now
So this week we've been finishing up learning different vocabulary terms that we will be using throughout the year that I need to students to start becoming familiar with. We also started our unit on Europe, right now we are focusing on the geogarphy of 9 major countries: United Kingdom, Russia, Italy, Spain, Poland, Germany, Belgium, Ukraine, and France, as well as physical features: the English Channel, Iberian Peninsula, Scandivanian Peninsula, Pyrnees, Ural Mountains, Danube River, Rhine River, the Alps, the European Plain, and the Mediterranean Sea. In class this week we've been labeling the Europe map and on Thursday and Friday we will begin discussing each of these places and their importance to us. (Standard we are currently working on is below.)
***On Monday and Tuesday we will have our next continents & oceans quiz including the equator and the prime meridian. Please have your students review this often. *** (the map of Europe won't be on this quiz)
SS6G8 The student will locate selected features of Europe.

What a first week of school we've had, we are off to a great start. This first week we've been talking about basic geography terms and skill. We've also been working on longitude and latitude and the 5 Themes of Geography: Location, Region, Culture, Human-Environmental Interaction, Movement. A lot of this was review for the students but we use this throughout the year so it's a great starting point for us.
I asked that your students have 2 composition books for my class as the main supply's. We use one for bell work only and the other is for our notes and activities that we do. I've asked the students that they not use these for any other class, and I've also told them that I don't mind keeping them in my class that way they don't get lost but that it's up to them.
This week we will start with out weekly geography quizzes, the first one being over the continents and oceans. I've given the student's a world map that we labeled and glued into our interactive notebook. We will be adding different regions to this weekly quiz as we study them.
